Franz Dannhauser will receive the Life of Beauty Award at BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF 2018. The jury particularly emphasised his foresight and proactive dedication. Franz Dannhauser’s hard work and modesty, they said, have made him a role model in the best sense of the word.
With this award, which is presented at BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF, Messe Düsseldorf honours personalities for their special merits in professional cosmetics and for being driving forces in the industry. The award ceremony will be held at the Meeting Point in Hall 10 on Friday 9 March 2018, at 16:15 hrs.
Passionate about innovation
Franz Dannhauser knew at an early age that he wanted to embrace professional cosmetics: “The desire to work in the cosmetics industry may have been somewhat unusual for a man in 1974 – but the dynamics and innovative capabilities of this market have fascinated me from the very beginning.”
After completing his commercial training and after spending some time in other countries, Franz Dannhauser entered the cosmetics industry in 1974 and – until 1994 – held leading positions in sales, export and marketing of cosmetic appliances, skincare products and decorative cosmetics. Innovation has continued to be his passion to the present day: “Marketing and the development of ideas and their implementation have always been my favourite activities.” In 1994 he accepted a job as head of marketing at THALGO. This soon led to more. As a managing partner and, later, managing director, Franz Dannhauser first had to steer the company out of rough waters and reposition it on the market. In doing so, he demonstrated both drive and foresight, developing new business models and fields that eventually ensured sustainable success. THALGO handled the Austrian market on its own, together with its affiliate brands Ella Baché and Couleur Caramel.
Special commitment to the spa segment
In particular, he started at an early stage to promote and then continually developed the medical beauty segment, which involves collaboration between a cosmetician and the medical profession. However, what he found particularly exciting as a managing director was the development of the spa segment. When he joined the company, its clientèle already included a number of beauty farms which then turned into wellness divisions and eventually spas. The driving force behind this development was physical treatment under thalassotherapy and, later, entire treatment rituals that were developed by the company.
Still in the industry as Managing Director of VCP
Although Franz Dannhauser will no longer be in a management position at THALGO and is officially retiring, he will continue to be actively involved in the industry. After many years of working on the executive board of VCP (the Association of Cosmetic Professionals), he has accepted a position as its Managing Director. What the future Managing Director of VCP would like to see is more public attention being paid to cosmeticians: “I’ve been fascinated by professional cosmetics from day one, and I still am. I’m convinced it’s an area where we can still achieve a lot. And, hopefully, I’ll be able to continue to do so through my work for the Association of Cosmetic Professionals.”
