So beautiful: The beauty industry will once again be presenting numerous exciting trends for the year 2025 at BEAUTY Düsseldorf at the end of March. Be it make-up, cosmetics or the latest developments in nails – all will become seductive, glamorous and wonderfully individual. Here experts share with us what is currently trending.

Let’s start with make-up: eyes and lips can be fairly strongly emphasised, explains make-up artist Isabelle Richter from Cologne. Extraordinary colours are welcome and contrasts desired. On the one hand, strong, ash-like colours are up to date making for strong contours on eyes and lips. On the other hand, pale pastel shades that are hardly visible are in. This matches the trend towards a natural look which continues to be absolutely topical. For all those running a beauty business the expert shares another important tip: “Don’t try to copy others. Be yourself and find your own look. Then success comes all by itself.”

Forward-looking trends are also visible in skincare. “Anti-aging is a thing of the past,” explains the expert Dr. Meike Streker from Schleswig-Holstein and adds: “Because today the focus is on prevention.” The motto here reads “A Longlife Beauty” – because it already makes sense to use preventive skin care at a young age. “Neurocosmetics” are just as pioneering: here beauty meets well-being because healthy skin is closely correlated with emotional well-being. This correlation is studied by neuroscientists, and this is also why more and more fragrances and textures are used that have a soothing effect. At the same time, massages are heralding a comeback. “Another key topic is sustainability,” says the cosmetics scientist. High-performance cosmetics that are eco-friendly at the same time are in focus. “Green Beauty” is the trend capturing the mood of the times.

And what about cosmetic permanent make-up? The permanent embellishment of lips, eyes, and eyebrows is increasingly in demand. “Absolute naturalness is trending this year,” PMU expert Olga Hendricks reveals. “Key: individuality is centre stage.” The art of permanent make-up is to imitate nature as best as possible, she goes on to say. Every detail is worked out to make the overall look as natural as possible. What’s more, clients no longer want to keep their PMU for many years but like to refresh or change it after one to two years. After all: they want to stay flexible because there are new trends and fashions emerging time and again. Furthermore, new technologies allow artists to work even more precisely. Colours can be mixed right in the customer’s presence and precisely adapted to their skin tones and complexions. Individuality is king. Currently trending especially for narrow lips is “Lip Blushing”: the colour is tuned specifically to the skin tone – thereby providing youthful freshness. For eyebrows narrow brows herald a comeback. “Skinny Brows” are up and coming, remarks Olga Hendricks, as are finest hairs that look completely natural. These “Real Brows” cannot be distinguished from your real ones. For eyes the lash line is intensified giving eyes more expression. “This beauty routine is now also used by many men,” says the expert. Furthermore, shaded eyeliners are fully in line with the trend – because they correct the shape of the eye making the eyes look fresher and brighter.  

For nails a genuine comeback can be expected for 2025: “French nails are very much on trend again”, says nail designer Vincenzo Russello from Hagen. “They can be classic white or come in really strong colours.” In addition, the full-cover look with magical “cat eye” designs will reach a new dimension, the expert is sure. Especially in red. Also in: the “glazed look” as a real eye-catcher. Be it on Instagram or the catwalk: this hot manicure trend is winning people over with wit and charm. Russello also names “Mocha Mousse” as a trend colour for beautiful nails, the pale brown declared colour of the year by US colour institute  Pantone. Sustainability and environmentally friendly nail products are, of course, also a hot topic. Many manufacturers increasingly bank on natural ingredients such as organic oils and mineral pigments. A plus for beauty!

Healthy and beautiful feet are centre stage in podiatry and pedicure. And there are also very clear trends here. Mechthild Geismann, podiatry expert, knows that personalised therapies are increasing in importance. “A carefully researched medical history, precise diagnosis and a personalised treatment plan are crucial today,” says the expert. “This contributes to successful outcomes, builds confidence and creates satisfaction.” In addition, she remarks, it also demonstrates the expertise and professionalism of the specialists, which is highly valued by patients. “Another trend is prevention,” adds Geismann. Through regular foot check-ups, symptoms can be detected and prevented at an early stage. Here mobility and health are clearly in focus. Eco-friendly products and sustainability also play a pivotal role in the foot segment. At the same time, the borders between podiatry and pedicure are becoming more visible, explains the foot expert. While podiatry places the emphasis on health and functionality, cosmetic pedicure is increasingly seen as a supplement that promotes the general well-being and aesthetics of feet. A perfect foot duo that ideally complements each other.

Trend colour of the year: Mocha Mousse
Supple brown hues are a hot ticket in 2025: with “Mocha Mousse”, colour institute Pantone has selected a warm and rich brown shade as the colour of the year. It is, according to Pantone, reminiscent of delightful cocoa, coffee and chocolate – and appeals to the need for harmony and cosiness. The trend colour stands for sensual warmth and security. So beautiful!
