BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL 2003 Düsseldorf: Exhibitors and Visitors enthusiastic about the High Quality of the Event

The beauty sector has obviously been spared in overall negative economic climate. At least at BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL there could be no talk of crisis or slump. 53,400 international trade visitors filled the Düsseldorf exhibition Halls 14 to 17 from Friday, 28 to Sunday 30 March in order to gather information on the wide and varied ranges on offer. The world’s leading trade fair for professional cosmetics registered 602 exhibitors from 27 countries who presented their ranges covering all segments of decorative cosmetics and related apparatus. The ranges displayed were supplemented by numerous workshops and seminars at the CCD.Ost congress centre and talks delivered at the Sun + Wellness, Foot and Nail meeting points.
Exhibitors voiced their satisfaction with the fair. “We never had such a good show as this year,” said Norbert Sutor of 3TO GmbH adding that the response of the trade audience had been excellent.
Yvonne Rönnig of Babor was particularly impressed with the high quality of the trade visitors. “Furthermore, we have registered the highest number of new customers ever.”
In the nail sector the picture is quite similar. Hans Paulig of MAHA company was very pleased with the interest visitors took in further and on-going professional training. “It is clear to see that those working as nail designers want to do a professional job,” he emphasised going on to say that there was a growing demand for so-called spa treatments with a focus on health.
Exhibitor Rudolf Weyergans was just as thrilled with the results. “The first day of the exhibition alone was better than any we have seen over the past 15 years,” he said stressing that not only the interest had been enormous but also the number of concrete deals concluded had also been as high as ever. There was no talk of a crisis whatsoever, rather of an on-going demand for relevant treatments with high-quality products. “There is a trend towards prevention and health where people are not inclined to save money,” is his impression.
The topic of soft treatments paired with subtle shades in cosmetics was therefore also the recurring theme of the entire event. With a view to colours, fabrics and styling for 2003 Spring/Summer fashion, make-up and nail polish colours also exude joie de vivre with a natural and sensitive feel. White and pale shades like cream, powder pink, pale blue, salmon pink and lime green are to create an atmosphere of lightness and optimism. These were also the colours used by the 15 contestants of the International Make-Up Championship. Just like the 26 participants in the International Nail Championship they were judged by a high-calibre jury.
This year, the organisers placed special emphasis on the wellness theme as this concept plays an increasingly important role in society. Beauty and peace of mind through relaxation and respective treatments are in ever more frequent demand from customers – it does not come as a surprise therefore that the relevant exhibition stands received throngs of visitors at BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL.
This is also why the Special Wellness Feature in Hall 17 conceived by Messe Düsseldorf and the German Wellness Association was a success across the board. “The response was excellent – there is a surprisingly high number of cosmeticians who would like to undergo further training in this speciality,” said Joachim H. Bürger, member of the board in charge of media and communication for the Germany Wellness Association. The offer made at the Association’s stand to provide cosmeticians with a type of guideline for refitting their beauty parlours into wellness oases very much struck a chord with visitors. “Our basic idea was very well received here. It provoked much discussion with visitors coming for in-depth conversations,” Bürger summarised.
Held concurrently with BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL 2003 was the 2nd cos made trade fair. The 61 international exhibitors were also very satisfied here. This was the second time suppliers of raw materials, manufacturing capacities, related services and packaging presented their ranges in Düsseldorf. 920 trade visitors visited Hall 13. Summing up exhibitors reported that visitors had shown a great deal of interest. “What counts here is the quality rather than the quantity of the visitors,” said Martin Zimmerli von der Firma ATS Tanner GmbH. “I am optimistic that the cos made trade fair concept will work – it will develop into a very important fair over the coming few years.”
Similar comments were also made by Michael Pfeiffer, General Manager of Pfeiffer GmbH. “We received many concrete enquiries and are very satisfied.” There was also a clear trend to be seen with an enormous increase in demand for products with innovative, natural-based raw materials. The slogan is: “parting with the traditional and breaking new ground”.

The next BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL in Düsseldorf will be held from Friday, 19 to Sunday, 21 March 2004 and the 3rd cos made trade fair will take place on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 March 2004.
